Jennifer Lawrence Pens An Open Letter Addressing Donald Trump’s Victory
Despite gaining notoriety as a reality TV star, Donald Trump certainly does not have the support of most A-list celebrities. Now, Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence has joined the scores of stars who have openly spoken out against Trump’s shocking victory against Hillary Clinton.
Lawrence penned a powerful open letter for Broadly in which she assertively expressed her fears, concerns, and hopes for what the future holds for the United States and its people.
“Is this the stark reality?” Lawrence starts off. “It doesn’t matter how hard you work or how qualified you are, at the end of the day, you’re not a man? Is that what we just learned? This country was founded on immigration and today the only people that feel safe, that their rights are recognized and respected are white men.”
Lawrence’s sadness over the election’s outcome is splashed across her short editorial, but she still encourages people to not feel discouraged.
“Do not let this defeat you—let this enrage you!” Lawrence states. “Let it motivate you! Let this be the fire you didn’t have before. If you are an immigrant, if you are a person of color, if you are LGBTQ+, if you are a woman—don’t be afraid, be loud!”
The actress also took the opportunity to directly address young women who may feel dejected after Clinton’s loss. In fact, Lawrence echoed her previous sentiments about the gender gap.
“We’re all allowed to be sad that the present isn’t what we thought it was,” Lawrence writes. “But we mustn’t be defeated. We will keep educating ourselves and working twice as hard as the man next to us because we know now that it is not fair. It is not fair in the workplace, so you make it impossible to fail.”
