Luxury sports carmaker Porsche knows what its customers want and its customers want more variants on their wildly popular Panamera lineup. Unleashed at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show was the Porsche 2018 Panamera Sport Turismo. Like so many Porsche vehicles, the Sport Turismo is speedy, dynamic and sleek, but also unexpectedly utilitarian…for a Porsche that is.

Technically speaking, Porsche’s latest differs only marginally from the newly remodeled 2017 Panamera, but visually it’s quite a different beast. That’s thanks to an extended roofline which enables slightly more interior space including some added headroom for backseat passengers. Porsche is also claiming that the Sport Turismo will be the first car to incorporate a variable rear spoiler into the roof instead of the trunk. The hope is that such a move will bolster stability and cut down on interference from wind while drivers are cruising with an open sunroof. The Sport Turismo is also easier to load and more accommodating for storage, courtesy of things like a folding splitback seat and wider hatch opening.

The new Sport Turismo comes available in four models: 4, 4S, 4 E-Hybrid and Turbo. Under the hood is a 330-horsepower 3.0-litre V6 engine on the 4, a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 on the 4S, a 2.9-litre V6 with an electric motor on the fuel-efficient 4-E Hybrid, and then a mind-blowing 550-hp twin-turbo V8 engine on the Turbo. In spite of the slight station wagon vibe, fans of Porsche will also have nothing to fear in the speed department whereas the new Sport Turismo offers the same tier of swift acceleration as previous models. On the 4 that means going 0-60 in 5 seconds and on the Turbo the time goes (impressively) down to 3.4 seconds. In summary, from the Porsche Sport Turismo expect a reliable level of speed, versatility and all-around brilliance, paired with a new design that suggests maybe you can take the family along for the ride every now and then.
