What happened?
According to preliminary accounts, the guy died instantly after his car collided with multiple barrels in the accident. The specific circumstances surrounding this unfortunate tragedy are now being investigated. The Volontaires are severely impacted by Habel’s unexpected death. A number of support initiatives have already been put in place to help players, coaches, and staff get through this trying moment, according to head coach Jean-Philippe Gauthier.
We don’t have many details yet. This happened in Montreal. We’ve communicated with a lot of the guys on the team, directly, mostly guys from the same area as him. We have eight or nine. We made the team through veterans and captains of the team. The other occupant of the car, a Volontaires player who joined the team last winter, suffered serious injuries but is not thought to be in a life-threatening condition. Gauthier explained.
It was expected that Habel, who had shown a great deal of promise on the field in his rookie season in 2023, would have an exceptional year. During the winter training season, he was acknowledged as one of the most improved players, setting him up for a crucial role in the approaching football season.
The Volontaires community, together with Alexandre Habel’s family and friends, mourns the loss of a young life overflowing with potential and promise. Through this painful time, the team’s and the larger Cégep de Sherbrooke community’s support and unity will be essential.
