Erin Moreno Death: 53 year-old Valley Center, KS resident died in an accident

A incident on the Kansas turnpike on Saturday afternoon near Emporia left two people dead and four injured.

According to the Emporia Fire Department, personnel were called to an injury accident at mile marker 134 on the KTA on Saturday afternoon, just after 3 p.m. Units arrived to find several victims involved in a two-vehicle collision.

Guerrero Moreno, Jr., 44, of Wichita, is the driver of the Kia Telluride, which was involved in a rear-end collision with a semi-truck and spun out before coming to a stop, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Erin Moreno, 42, was one of the passengers in the Telluride. She was brought to Newman Regional Hospital in Emporia, where she was subsequently declared deceased. Anthony Barrera, a 17-year-old passenger, passed away at the site.

While the driver of the semi-truck was unharmed, Moreno, Jr. was rushed to the hospital with what seemed to be minor injuries. Three other minors in the SUV were reportedly hurt, according to KVOE, but the KHP has designated their information as protected.

Following the collision, both lanes of traffic were blocked for around five hours.
