Jack Connors, the Camp Harbor View Co-Founder and Chairman passed away on Tuesday, July 23, from pancreatic cancer.
It was until on June 8th, at the Camp Harbor View Beach Ball, that he announced a record-breaking fundraising total of $13.4 million, the majority of which was Jack’s own labor. This served as evidence to support his declaration that he would never stop fighting for the causes that meant so much to him. The day after that, he became 82 years old.
In 2006, when Tom Menino, who was serving as Mayor of Boston at the time, approached Jack for assistance in ensuring the safety and happiness of middle school students during the summer, Jack reached into his creative and imaginative side to conceive of a stunning summer day camp that would be located on an island in Boston Harbor. This is how Camp Harbor View came into existence.
Jack envisioned a campus that was spotless, complete with opportunities for children to swim, sail, participate in sports, meet new people, and picture a future that was full of possibilities. You are aware that the vision that you saw is become a reality.
Jack has encouraged each and every one of us to be creative and to put in a lot of effort in order to form partnerships with the children and families who are a part of the Camp Harbor View community ever since the camp first opened its doors in July of 2007. Because he has been so steadfast in his determination to supply us with all of the resources that are required for us to carry out our job, Camp Harbor View has evolved into something that is far more than a summer camp.
