According to Chicago police, a body was found in Lake Michigan at 31st Street Beach on Sunday afternoon. The male victim was extracted from the water by the CPD Marine Unit, according to the police, at 12:45 p.m. On the spot, the victim was declared deceased.
Days prior, a boat overturned, leaving one boater missing and three others hospitalized. However, authorities are unable to positively identify the body as that of the missing boater. Authorities claim they are awaiting identification from the office of the medical examiner.
The boat capsized on Friday around 7:33 p.m., somewhat south of 31st Street Harbor. There were over a dozen guests celebrating a birthday on the boat.
Before the boat overturned and threw everyone inside into the ocean, one of the women on board reported feeling the boat rock violently. Most of the persons on board, she said, were not good swimmers.
Lorenzo Tobin was reported as the boater who went missing. Officials haven’t said whether the corpse found belongs to Tobin, though.
