Maureen Danehy Cox Death: New Haven, CT resident died on July 25 due to ALS complications

Maureen Danehy Cox has passed away suddenly. The beloved member of the New Haven community, passed away from problems brought on by her ALS. Her death signifies the conclusion of a life devoted to community, profession, and family. Maureen Cox was a loving mother of Michael D. Cox and the loyal wife and best friend of Robert B. Cox for 43 years. Everyone who came into contact with her was impacted by her kindness, wit, and warmth.

Maureen was one of ten children born to Benjamin and Rosalie Jones Danehy in New Haven on May 9, 1954. Her huge family gave her a strong sense of security and self-assurance, as well as a profound understanding for the ties that bind families. After pursuing her education at Sacred Heart Academy in Hamden and Our Lady of Victory in West Haven, she excelled academically at the College of the Holy Cross, where she was one of the first female students enrolled. Maureen was a Phi Beta Kappa member and a magna cum laude graduate. Later, she graduated from the University of Connecticut School of Law with honors and made contributions to the Law Review.

Maureen was known for distinction and trailblazing achievements in her legal career. She joined Carmody & Torrance, now Carmody, Torrance, Sandak & Hennessey where she decame a partner and an esteemed litigator. Whiel she was there, she was recognized as one of Connecticut’s top women in litigation by Benchmark Litigation, breaking barriers as the first female president of both the Connecticut Defense Lawyers Association and a state chapter nationwide.

She bagged several accolades during her career, including being an Attorney Trial Referee, a James W. Cooper Fellow, and being a recipient of numerous awards for leadership and advocacy during her career. Maureen was known and loved for her committment to mentoring female lawyers thereby earning a place among Connecticut’s top women lawyers and receiving a professional writing award for appellate advocacy.
