The DJ for Kool G. Rap, DJ Polo, has lost his fight against an unidentified ailment -cause of death. As a tribute to Polo’s turntable prowess, “Its A Demo” from 1986 marked Polo’s recording debut alongside G.Rap. Polo made appearances on the albums Road To The Riches (1989), Wanted Dead Or Alive (1990), and Live And Let Die (1992). Hip-hop artists Eric B, Big Daddy Kane, Domingo, and others expressed their condolences to the departed Juice Crew member via their websites. DJ Polo, rest in peace.
Who was Kool G Rap?
Wilson was raised by renowned producer Eric B. on the impoverished streets of Corona, Queens, New York City. He said in an interview with The Source: Growing up in Corona was similar to living in a small version of Harlem; it wasn’t difficult for a nigga to be impacted by the mindset of the street. When I was at fifteen, Ma Dukes was no longer able to dress a nigga, and at that age, you just wanted a little cash in your pocket. Material possessions are what drive us all. A nigga fell victim to that way of thinking. At some time, Nigga started peddling narcotics, and that kind of stuff was what was going on in the streets; eventually, all of my pals were killed. Wilson was seeking for a DJ at this time, and he contacted DJ Polo—who was looking for an MC to work with—through Eric B.
DJ Polo and Kool G Rap
The song “It’s a Demo” was produced by Juice Crew producers Mr. Magic and DJ Marley Marl, who gave Polo and Kool G Rap permission to visit their studio and record a demo. Marley was so taken aback by the song—which was created and produced in a single evening—that he welcomed DJ Polo and Kool G Rap into the Juice Crew right away.[20] The pair had an appearance on 107.5’s Rap Attack radio show with Mr. Magic in 1986. Eventually, “It’s a Demo” and “I’m Fly” were released as a single along with two additional tracks. Kool G Rap made an appearance on the Juice Crew’s iconic posse cut “The Symphony” shortly after, and in 1989 they released their debut album, Road to the Riches.
