Butch Myers has passed away suddenly. He was confirmed dead on Thursday, July 25, 2024 by his family who are very devastated by the tragic loss of Butch. According to reports reaching the public at this time, he died on Thursday morning at his home in Athens, Texas leaving behind his family, friends and loved ones devastated by his family.
At the time of his tragic death, he was 78 years of age. Since the news of his death surfaced, many have not hesitated to share their heartfelt condolences with the family of Butch Myers, also paying tribute to him in recently released statements. He will always be missed by all those who had the privilege of meeting him during the course of his well lived life.

He was a 1980 World Champion Steer Wrestler, a 12-time NFR qualifier, 11 in steer wrestling between 1980-97, and one in the tie-down roping in 1989, 1986 NFR Steer Wrestling Average Champ who set a new record 44.3 on 10. He was a 1997 NFR Steer Wrestling Average Champ, broke his own record at 52 years old, 43.3 on 10.
Apart from his career in sports, he was a Dad to Rope and Tygh for Cash, a Nine-time NFR qualifier Rope broke Butch’s NFR record with 37.4 on 10 in 2001, and also won the world. Tygh’s son, Quade Hiatt, is a rising tie-down roping star currently ranked 11th in the world
Cash has 16 National Finals back numbers in steer wrestling (seven), tie-down roping (one) and steer roping (eight). Brother to Joy Myers Murray, so also Ty Murray’s uncle. Butch loved rodeo, but loved his family and friends more, and was by all accounts very proud of his grandkids out there making their own way in the rodeo world right now.
